The Health Department is responsible for inspections and activities related to air, noise, water and ground pollution in the following ways:

Air Pollution

  • Inspects facilities such as dry cleaners, paint spray booths, boilers, and emergency generators
  • Responds to odor complaints from residents

Noise pollution

  • Enforces and responds to complaints regarding noise from a commercial or industrial source impacting a private residence

Water pollution – Surface water & Storm water

  • Monitors and seeks to prevent pollution of all bodies of water in the county including rivers, streams, and lakes as well as land areas that drain into these waters; includes surface water and storm water
  • Responds to all citizens' complaints regarding water pollution.

Water pollution – Potable water (Drinking water) and Ground Water

  • Inspects public non-community water supplies (wells serving more than 25 people a day)
  • Inspects potable water (drinking water) and ground water contamination

Solid Waste

  • Physically inspects all open landfills in the county
  • Inspects all recycling facilities and compost facilities
  • Responds to complaints involving illegal dumping and medical waste
