Post Date:10/25/2023 11:34 AM

(Harmony Township, NJ – October 21, 2023) – Warren County Commissioner James R. Kern III joined Warren County Prosecutor James L. Pfeiffer to observe a full-scale active shooter training exercise at the Warren County Farmers’ Fairgrounds in Harmony Township.

Numerous local law enforcement agencies participated in the exercise alongside the Warren County Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, Warren County Rescue Task Force, Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Warren County Police Chiefs Association, Warren County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the New Jersey State Police.

The purpose of this exercise was to train and test the capabilities of both the Rescue Task Force and the law enforcement response to an active shooter.1000015574 The primary areas of focus included command and control, operational coordination, operational communications, and health and medical services.

Training exercises are important in preparing for these types of incidents but simulations also provide an opportunity to test current plans and policies to make adjustments so that first responders are well prepared in case of emergencies.

“These training sessions demonstrate the tireless efforts of law enforcement and first responders as they rehearse the critical task of responding in times of crisis,” Commissioner Kern said, adding, “From the initial 911 call to the frontline response, each agency plays a vital role in these situations. Warren County is committed to providing our first responders with the tools they need to do their jobs effectively and safely.”

A special thanks to the local Emergency Medical Services agencies who were able to provide ambulances for the simulation and also in real life emergencies, as well as all those who volunteered their time to be role players and other various positions to make this training opportunity happen.
