Commissioners Proclaim National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Post Date:10/12/2023 11:13 AM

(WHITE TOWNSHIP, NJ - October 11, 2023) - October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Warren County Board of County Commissioners have proclaimed.

Tracy Mazzucco, Health Educator / Risk Communicator in the Warren County Health Department, accepted the proclamation and noted that breast cancer strikes 1 in 8 women but is very treatable if caught early.

Commissioner Director Lori Ciesla said it is important to bring awareness to the issue, explaining that cancers in women under 40 are on the rise. “It’s not scary to get a mammogram,” Ciesla said, urging women to schedule the procedure. Men also can get breast cancer, she noted, accounting for about 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States.

Mazzucco said people needing more information should call the county Health Department at 908-475-7960, adding, “We have a lot of resources available in the county.”
